Hi, Frisco Families, I had a blast going with Mrs. Brendel's class to Francie's Cabin this week. Your kids are absolute troopers, because the hike is decently steep without a pack and snowshoes. The views were beautiful, and we will share photos with 5th grade families. Last week, students had a guest speaker share avalanche science, and and an astronomy guest speaker made the hike to do some activities with the kids. 5th graders have been studying earth and space science in their PYP Unit of Inquiry, so in STEM we built heat shields (STEM constructions) to protect the sensors (Snickers bar) of our Mars rover, as it entered Mars' atmosphere (hair dryer). We did not blow any fuses this year, and this year a few students used water as an insulator--really creative thinking! 1st graders finished their boat builds to save Minions. They quickly learned that cardboard needs to be covered with duct tape in order not to become waterlogged. I shared two ways to make their boats...
