December 2: Classroom updates:)

Hi,

We have been having a blast in STEM, and as always it is so much fun getting the kids back in the Space Lab. Listen to my 5 minute video 1 and video 2 about our activities, and be sure to enjoy the photos below.

Thank you to the town of Frisco for the Turkey Day 5K donation. We are so lucky to work closely with our community.

ALL students are learning about digital citizenship. We learned about parts of an online news source in fifth grade. It is really important to identify advertisements and the source of the article. Second grade learned about what information is safe to share online. All grades discussed how and why it is important to have balance with our digital lives. Common Sense Media is in English and Spanish and offers brilliant advice for parents and educators.

Kindergarten: Circle art, building centers - Kindergarten students worked on collaborative skills and building using gears. We also are solving coding puzzles using the Kodable app.

1st Grade: Animal Adaptations - Check these out in SeeSaw! Students brainstormed animal adaptations that would solve human problems like being slow, having soft skin, and getting too hot or cold.

2nd Grade: Stop Motion Animation - Second graders learned to use Google Slides in a neat way.

3rd Grade: Sphero Challenge success! Students programmed the spheres to move from letter to letter reading a poem.

4th Grade: Lego Wall - Colorado History - The Lego wall is looking really fresh thanks to fourth graders sharing their learning about mining other aspects of Colorado History.

5th Grade: We learned about how to make an appealing and engaging Google Slides, WeVideo, and Book Creator in order to have some technology options for our US History project.

STEM Needs:

Cardboard--LOTS of it!

Hola,

Such a great project and really relevant with all of the rain and landslides this summer!  September 3 STEM Video Newsletter STEM Wish List aluminum tops of frozen juice containers toilet paper tubes cardboard gently used markers 20 oz. bottle tops

Welcome to STEM!

Dear Panther Families, I am so excited to be a part of your Frisco Elementary teaching faculty, and I’m excited to work with your children in STEM class! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and our class explores the process of engineering design, and we collaborate with teachers to connect classroom activities to real life careers. We will learn and practice good digital citizenship, too. Wait until you see the tools we will use to imagine, build, and reimagine! I come to you from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, a town between Madison and Milwaukee. My husband Jason and I have two children. Our daughter Alex is a junior at Indiana-Bloomington, and our son Brendan is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (my alma mater! Go, Badgers!). We love live music, running, hiking, and skiing, much like everyone else in this beautiful county. Professionally, I have taught six years of third grade, two years of fourth grade, and seven years of sixth grade, three y...

December 17: Turkey Day 5K - Wow!, STEM Happenings

Happy Holidays!    Lego credit goes to Naomi in 5th Grade! STEM Newsletter Watch this five minute video about STEM happenings. Here is the second part of that video . I will be requesting NutKases for grades 3 and 4 when we come back from break. If you would like to put in an order before then , here is the link to do so. NutKases are fabulously protective of your child's technology, and as I have been sharing, most damage will be waived, if we know your child has the case on when damage occurs.  If you have already requested one, please ask your child if it is on their Chromebook. Some of the older students have them, but they are sometimes a little resistant to using them.  You can clean the outside of the Chromebook and the keyboard with wipes or a damp cloth. There have been a few cases wher...
