February 6: STEM Activities, Cardboard Convention, Family STEM Night February 15 6-7 PM, VEX Competition - March 8

Please join us in the STEM room and LMC for an hour of Cardboard Convention! I am looking forward to seeing the work you and your families have done, and you will love seeing the work kids have created here at school. One problem that is being solved is an automatic trash can for Mr. Alberto the custodian:)

Thank you so much for your donations! I am good with cardboard right now, but I would love toilet paper tubes!

5th Grade VEX Club will compete March 8 after school. I will give you more details when I have them. Their robots are really coming along, and they are practicing driving them, too!

Hello, Frisco Families,

I have a quick activities update for you!

5th grade - Ms. Lloyd and I are collaborating to help the students create models of daytime, constellation movement, the phases of the Moon and seasons, so they can teach younger students. Students are not only become experts in the science, but they are learning about how different grade levels have different attention spans and other awesome educational sciences things.

4th grade - We are using Makey Makeys this week to create an interactive human body system. Last week, kids made a paper piano in order to learn about how Makey Makey uses circuits to turn different things like graphite and paper into sounds. Here is a video!

3rd grade - 3rd grade is learning about electricity and magnetism in their unit of inquiry, and we made magnetic cars that are propelled by magnetism.

2nd grade - Last week, we built the Lego wall into map features to go with their geography work. 2nd graders are planning to engineer a house and foundation that can withstand large storms and erosion.

1st grade - 1st graders are using houses from different cultures as inspiration for building using only the materials you would have available to you.

Kindergarten - Kindergarten is learning about pushes and pulls, so we are doing a number of centers to feature this. We read Jack and the Beanstalk, and they engineered different ways for Jack to escape the giant as quickly as possible using the big magnetic ramps and balls wall and marbles runs. In order to escape safely, Jack (the ball) must land directly in his house (the cup). See our video here. Here are pictures. Kinder Jack pictures

Kinder Jack fotos

Hello, everyone! Please watch the video below for an update on what we have been doing in the STEM classroom! STEM meets twice a week for 30 minutes. PS, I forgot to mention the really cool landslide engineering / exploration fourth grade did earlier this week. Such a great project and really relevant with all of the rain and landslides this summer!  September 3 STEM Video Newsletter STEM Wish List aluminum tops of frozen juice containers toilet paper tubes cardboard gently used markers 20 oz. bottle tops

Welcome to STEM!

Dear Panther Families, I am so excited to be a part of your Frisco Elementary teaching faculty, and I’m excited to work with your children in STEM class! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and our class explores the process of engineering design, and we collaborate with teachers to connect classroom activities to real life careers. We will learn and practice good digital citizenship, too. Wait until you see the tools we will use to imagine, build, and reimagine! I come to you from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, a town between Madison and Milwaukee. My husband Jason and I have two children. Our daughter Alex is a junior at Indiana-Bloomington, and our son Brendan is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (my alma mater! Go, Badgers!). We love live music, running, hiking, and skiing, much like everyone else in this beautiful county. Professionally, I have taught six years of third grade, two years of fourth grade, and seven years of sixth grade, three y...

I will be requesting NutKases for grades 3 and 4 when we come back from break. If you would like to put in an order before then , here is the link to do so. NutKases are fabulously protective of your child's technology, and as I have been sharing, most damage will be waived, if we know your child has the case on when damage occurs.  If you have already requested one, please ask your child if it is on their Chromebook. Some of the older students have them, but they are sometimes a little resistant to using them.  You can clean the outside of the Chromebook and the keyboard with wipes or a damp cloth. There have been a few cases wher...
