September 19-22: Survey, Design Thinking, Donations, STEM Fun!

 Dear Frisco Families,

Please watch video 1 and video 2 (5 or so minutes each) about what we are up to this week! Don't forget to click below to see photos from classes.

Here are the key points from the video:

Photographs

Kindergarten

1st Grade - Students are learning to program their Ozobots. Ozobots have light sensors that detect color and patterns in color. If you give the Ozobot the right code using a marker line, they will go fast, slow down, turn right or left, spin around, do a u turn, etc.

2nd Grade - Students thought about the materials that work best to create a backscratcher. This is their first maker space project!

3rd Grade - More on their fabulous meal planning next week! They empathized to find out their partner's perfect meal, defined their challenge, ideated - brainstormed lots of ideas, prototyped with their meal creation, and Monday they will test by sharing their meal with their partner to get feedback.

4th Grade - Check out SeeSaw for their classroom digital citizenship work.

5th Grade - Check out SeeSaw for their completed biospheres next week! Ask them about producers, consumers, and decomposers.

Welcome to STEM!

Dear Panther Families, I am so excited to be a part of your Frisco Elementary teaching faculty, and I’m excited to work with your children in STEM class! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and our class explores the process of engineering design, and we collaborate with teachers to connect classroom activities to real life careers. We will learn and practice good digital citizenship, too. Wait until you see the tools we will use to imagine, build, and reimagine! I come to you from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, a town between Madison and Milwaukee. My husband Jason and I have two children. Our daughter Alex is a junior at Indiana-Bloomington, and our son Brendan is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (my alma mater! Go, Badgers!). We love live music, running, hiking, and skiing, much like everyone else in this beautiful county. Professionally, I have taught six years of third grade, two years of fourth grade, and seven years of sixth grade, three y...

I will be requesting NutKases for grades 3 and 4 when we come back from break. If you would like to put in an order before then , here is the link to do so. NutKases are fabulously protective of your child's technology, and as I have been sharing, most damage will be waived, if we know your child has the case on when damage occurs.  If you have already requested one, please ask your child if it is on their Chromebook. Some of the older students have them, but they are sometimes a little resistant to using them.  You can clean the outside of the Chromebook and the keyboard with wipes or a damp cloth. There have been a few cases wher...
