March 25: Coding, Sphero Chariots, Exhibition, Clubs, Women in STEM

 Hi, everyone,

Please enjoy this 5 minute video update of what is going on in STEM class! In this episode, I walk you through a bit of our coding activities.

Be sure to check out the links to photos below!

March is Women's History Month, and I learned that February 11 was International Women in the Sciences Day. Check out some really wonderful TED Talks about inspiring girls to try on STEM careers.

5th Grade Exhibition

Wow, was 5th grade Exhibition amazing, and so many family and friends turned out for this culminating activity for an elementary IB program! I really enjoyed helping your children dig into their topics in order to produce working models. They clearly rehearsed, and I was so impressed by the ownership they took in their projects. Truly, I saw inspired learners!

Welcome to STEM!

Dear Panther Families, I am so excited to be a part of your Frisco Elementary teaching faculty, and I’m excited to work with your children in STEM class! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and our class explores the process of engineering design, and we collaborate with teachers to connect classroom activities to real life careers. We will learn and practice good digital citizenship, too. Wait until you see the tools we will use to imagine, build, and reimagine! I come to you from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, a town between Madison and Milwaukee. My husband Jason and I have two children. Our daughter Alex is a junior at Indiana-Bloomington, and our son Brendan is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (my alma mater! Go, Badgers!). We love live music, running, hiking, and skiing, much like everyone else in this beautiful county. Professionally, I have taught six years of third grade, two years of fourth grade, and seven years of sixth grade, three y...

I will be requesting NutKases for grades 3 and 4 when we come back from break. If you would like to put in an order before then , here is the link to do so. NutKases are fabulously protective of your child's technology, and as I have been sharing, most damage will be waived, if we know your child has the case on when damage occurs.  If you have already requested one, please ask your child if it is on their Chromebook. Some of the older students have them, but they are sometimes a little resistant to using them.  You can clean the outside of the Chromebook and the keyboard with wipes or a damp cloth. There have been a few cases wher...
