February 25, 2022: Conferences, Robotics Club, Student Activities

 Hi, families,

Today, we are skipping a video, since you will see me at school during parent / teacher conference week.  The STEM lab will be open, and I will be hanging out nearby for any questions you might have. I am working on sending out individual student reports to families, since STEM is not currently on the report card. The STEM lab will be open at the following times:

March 7: 4-6:30 pm

March 9: 4-6:30 pm

March 10: 4-6:30 pm

3rd Grade Avalanche Mitigation

How might we protect I70 from avalanche damage? These students created avalanche mitigation strategies that we tested with an avalanche (clay boulder).

5th Grade Build a Car that Rolls

This design challenge asks the students to use the materials provided to build a car that rolls when you blow it. The longest one team's car went was 72 cm blowing away (haha) the nearest competition by a LOT!

1st Grade - Cultures: Build a shelter with the materials found in that biome. What does the shelter protect us from in each biome? We then tested each build with snow (flour), wind (hair dryer), water (water), and sand (sand).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Jen

August 30-September 3: Lego Challenges, Landslides, and Device Care

Hello, everyone! Please watch the video below for an update on what we have been doing in the STEM classroom! STEM meets twice a week for 30 minutes. PS, I forgot to mention the really cool landslide engineering / exploration fourth grade did earlier this week. Such a great project and really relevant with all of the rain and landslides this summer!  September 3 STEM Video Newsletter STEM Wish List aluminum tops of frozen juice containers toilet paper tubes cardboard gently used markers 20 oz. bottle tops

Welcome to STEM!

Dear Panther Families, I am so excited to be a part of your Frisco Elementary teaching faculty, and I’m excited to work with your children in STEM class! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and our class explores the process of engineering design, and we collaborate with teachers to connect classroom activities to real life careers. We will learn and practice good digital citizenship, too. Wait until you see the tools we will use to imagine, build, and reimagine! I come to you from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, a town between Madison and Milwaukee. My husband Jason and I have two children. Our daughter Alex is a junior at Indiana-Bloomington, and our son Brendan is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (my alma mater! Go, Badgers!). We love live music, running, hiking, and skiing, much like everyone else in this beautiful county. Professionally, I have taught six years of third grade, two years of fourth grade, and seven years of sixth grade, three y...

I will be requesting NutKases for grades 3 and 4 when we come back from break. If you would like to put in an order before then , here is the link to do so. NutKases are fabulously protective of your child's technology, and as I have been sharing, most damage will be waived, if we know your child has the case on when damage occurs.  If you have already requested one, please ask your child if it is on their Chromebook. Some of the older students have them, but they are sometimes a little resistant to using them.  You can clean the outside of the Chromebook and the keyboard with wipes or a damp cloth. There have been a few cases wher...
